Sarah & Father John chat about nonviolence as a social action in response to injustice, war, catastrophic climate change, and systemic violence. Dear suggests the life of Jesus, and specifically the Sermon on the Mount, as a model for living a nonviolent life which can be used by Christians as well as people of other faiths or none at all.

Father John Dear―peace activist, prolific author, American Catholic priest, and founder of the Beatitudes Center for the Nonviolent Jesus―has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize, authored 38 books, and as been arrested over 75 times in acts of civil disobedience against war. He taught theology at Fordham University and has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, The Sun, America, Sojourners, Commonweal, National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” among other media.

Episode 6: Sustainable Activism (with Lisa Levinson)
Sarah & Lisa chat about how animal lovers, advocates, and activist can use spirituality and community to "sustain" their compassionate work on behalf of the more-than-human world.

Lisa Levinson, Director, In Defense of Animals's Sustainable Activism Campaign which offers emotional and spiritual resources for animal activists, and co-directs the Wild Animals Campaign, advocating for wild animals. She shares about self-care for activists and one of her projects: the Toad Detour to help migrating toads safely cross the road in Philadelphia.

Sarah & Amanda chat about how to help dogs acheive balance of body/mind/spirit using the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda and meditation.

Jacy Reese is co-founder of the Sentience Institute, a social science think tank which builds on and promotes the body of evidence for how to most effectively encourage humanity's moral circle expansion. Their research results are made public and free, so anyone can use them to make more impactful decisions with their advocacy, careers, donations, and other resources. He's also the author of The End of Animal Farming: How Scientists, Entrepreneurs, and Activists Are Building an Animal-Free Food System.

Kathy Stevens, is founder and executive director of Catskill Animal Sanctuary. Kathy founded CAS to rescue farmed animals, ignite social change to end their exploitation, and champion vegan living.
